What is semantic markup?

Semantics is the study of language meaning. Markup is how the web document is created, or the way you write a document using the language available to you. Most web documents are built with HTML. So put those two meaning together and we have semantic mark up, the study of HTML (markup language). CSS is also considered a markup language and is used in styling a web page.

What is section 508-Accessibility?

Section 508-Accessibility is an act that requires federal agencies to develop, procure, maintain and use information and communications technology that is accessible to people with disabilities. It also made federal agencies allow on-line training and websites accessible for everyone.

What is Search Engine Optimization(SEO)?

Search engine optimization or SEO in short, is a set of rules that can be followed by website or owners to optimize their websites for search engines and thus improve their search engine rankings. In addition, it is a great way to increase the quality of their websites by making them user-friendly, faster, and easier to navigate through.

How do all of these relate to each other?

Semantic markup, Section 508-Accessibility, and search engine optimization all relate to each other because they share the common goal of creating a better website with information accessible to the public. A well written HTML made with semantic markup will rank better in SEO and will able to be seen by anyone.
