History of Gaming Consoles

The history of gaming dates back to the 1950’s as a technological oddity
at a science fair. From there it blossomed into on of the biggest entertainment
industries in the world today. The first game system was introduced by Ralph Baer
and his team in 1967. They introduced a game called the “Brown Box”. This was a
“vacuum tube circuit” that once connected to a TV could be used to play the game.
After this a company called Sega and another company called Taito came out
with their own systems. A new system called Atari and Arcade games were
introduced to the gaming community. In 1973 the Atari reatiled at $1,095 at
the time. They also released a game of pong later on as an arcade game and this
was introcyed to every bar, bowling alley, and mall all across the world.

In the late 1970’s Multiplayer gaming started to be a big thing in
gaming as high scores were set on arcade machines and people started to be
competitive all over the U.S. This first instance of this was a game called
“Empire” which logged over 300,000 hours between 1978 and 1985. From there
at home gaming and multiplayer gaming took off and four of five households
were predicted to own a gaming console.
