INFO300 Hands On Linux Project • 5:30 Section:
The progress report and compliance with specs are updated at one second past every minute. They were last updated 2018-11-30 07:58:02.
Logs for bash and sftp history are updated every ten minutes.
A good looking progress report will have no red marks for components on their due date.
Due dates and other specs are posted on the class’ web page. The lack of red marks does not
necessariy mean that all specs for the project have been met.
See Notes about Names and Permissions for Parts 1, 2, & 3
after the Progress Report…

It was the hunter's first time outside Montana. He woke, stricken still with the hours-old vision of ascending through rose-lit cumulus, of houses and barns like specks deep in the snowed-in valleys, all the scrolling country below looking December—brown and black hills streaked with snow, flashes of iced-over lakes, the long braids of a river gleaming at the bottom of a canyon. Above the wing the sky had deepened to a blue so pure he knew it would bring tears to his eyes if he looked long enough.
File2:
Now it was dark. The airplane descended over Chicago, its galaxy of electric lights, the vast neighborhoods coming clearer as the plane glided toward the airport—streetlights, headlights, stacks of buildings, ice rinks, a truck turning at a stoplight, scraps of snow atop a warehouse and winking antennae on faraway hills, finally the long converging parallels of blue runway lights, and they were down.

Hello, this is the last file. I am quite happy that I do not have to continue typing like this. It has been fun using bash commands. Well, go to go. See you another time! Goodbye!

Topic: Social Media, how they make money, markets and share.
Web
Files
File1:
I have chosen the topic social media, how they make money, markets and share. the topic talked about one of the important market value in now days. Social media can really effect the company in profit fielf from advertisement or sailing products. Social media can open new opportunities to show creativity and from any kind of field and ether using it in advertisement for companies or from having an own company. In short social media is great way to promote products and get high profit.
File2:
The work will cover the advantage and disadvantage of having company that depends on social media. The advantages of getting profit using social media that it may makes product spread very fast and get high revenue. Social media consider an old value which begins in 1970's but in only depnds on e-mail and other small use of connections. Which had a big reputation in many active places to finish processes. We can see companies nowadays that gets advantages of using social media to increase their profit by putting advertisement in YOUTUBE, Twitter or google. Also the new applications that need financial support they rely on big companies to promote their product and get support.
File3:
Since social media has a lot of advantages it has a lot of disadvantages. Which can effect the company in a bad way. Most of the disadvantages of having a social media markting that it could slow down the company so there is a big chance of decreasing revenue and dicresing losses. One of the examples of the disadvantages is time consuming. Becuase promoting the company product needs a lot advertisement through multi sites but there is big chance that people will skip the advertising. Which will the company lose a lot of time. From my small knowledge of social media markting the best way to avoid of big lost in time and budget is know the risks of having a busines through social media like to have spare time and budget inorder if anything happen.

A computer is a device that can be instructed to carry out sequences of arithmetic or logical operations automatically via computer programming. Modern computers have the ability to follow generalized sets of operations, called programs. These programs enable computers to perform an extremely wide range of tasks. Computers are used as control systems for a wide variety of industrial and consumer devices. This includes simple special purpose devices like microwave ovens and remote controls, factory devices such as industrial robots and computer-aided design, and also general purpose devices like personal computers and mobile deives such as smartphones. Early compture were only conceived as calculating devices. Since ancient times, simple manual devices like the abacus aided paople in doing calculation. Early in the industrial revolution, some mechanical devices were built to automate long tedious tasks, such as guiding patterns for looms. More sophisticated electrical machines did specialized analog calculations in the early 20th century.

Liverpool is the best club in the world Being a liverpool fan is the best feeling in the entire world. We have a great fanbse all over the world, from the streets of Soweto to the lovely city of Sydney. Bbased on our greatness, we have a lot rivals. One of our greatess rivals is Manchester united. A small from Manchester in the United Kingdom. They think they are better than us beacuse they have some major titles. But honestly they are the most annoying people on planet earth. Let me not get started on chelsea football club A club that was founded in 2004 but they feel they feel they have been there since the beginning of time. A couple of my friends are chelsea fans and honestly i don't know the difference between United fans and Chelsea fans. But they are both not up there with LIVERPOOL FANS.

Topic: (Permissions: 644) Gaming Systems – Consoles
Web
Files
File1:
My topic will be on gaming consoles. I will be specifically talking about Playstation, Xbox, and Nintendo as they are the three largest at the moment. Not only will i be comparing them in their markets and how they do against each other but i will also bring other gaming markets such as PC gaming, and compare not only how consoles do against each other but how they do against PC quality and the ups and downs of gaming consoles such as price, quality, and reputation. When it comes to price, this is where it varies in terms of if people want to base price of each gaming system with features, or just if they are looking to spend on a budget. When it comes to budget, people really just look for a system that fits there price range which is where consoles come in. Consoles are a good option because there prices are typically under five hundred and you rarely need to replace parts unlike PC where you need to buy replacement parts and you can spend over one thousand dollars in order to get a good working PC gaming system. I myself own a Playstation 4, and i have always been a Playstation user in the last generations. I will most liekly continue being a Playstation user for future generation. It's the system i grew up with and i gave it some thought to move to PC gaming, but i feel like that's for serious gamers because there is a lot of investment involved into it. I am competitive for some games but i feel that i am casual when it comes to gaming and i do not need to invest so much in gaming.

Test file, so i am going to tell you a story about me. I love to play soccer. I've been playing soccer for the past 16 years now. Not only that, i found out in my early years that my left is my dominant foot. This isn't a rare thing, but the majority of the people in this world are right dominant. But what is weird about me is that instead of just being left dominant all around like most left footed players, i am right handed too. People found this strange because most of the people i know that are left dominant are also left handed. I found out that i was indeed left handed in my early stages of life but my father thought that being left handed would be a problem later on in life and forced me to write with and do other stuff with my right hand to make me right handed. This wasn't too difficult of course because all he needed to do was remind me to use my right instead of left since i was at a young age and couldn't really write with either yet.
File3:
last file and just a couple more lines so here is another story about me. When it came being athletic, i was always striving to be more than before. At some point it seemed like i was over working myself because i was doing cross-country, track, and soccer for high school while also having club team practice and individual training sessions for things i need to work on. My high school days you would find me after school at one of sports practices throughout the year. Fall would be cross-country where we would prepare for 5k races in which i would usually run 7 miles daily and about 3 miles for recovery and days before the race. Winter i would be doing track. Mainly would be running events such as 400m, 1000m, or relays like the 4x400m. Practices for these consisted of form training and repetition. Spring and summer consisted of soccer. I would have training both before and after school, which is typically scrimmages and drills. On top of all those high school sports, i also was a part of SYC club soccer. So i would be in training for whatever sport i am doing each day after school, and then i'll immediately go to club team training sessions afterwards. During the time, i was very athletic and had an athletic resting heart rate of 46. Nowadays i find myself doing less as i only play soccer mostly for fun and competition over the summer and my resting heart rate is 57 which shows i'm still athletic but not how i used to be.

Topic: Tablets used as registers
Web
Files
File1:
My topic is the use of tablets as registers. Tablets for personal use are becoming less and less common and less profitable. Tablets turned to commercial use and it's transforming businesses everywhere. With the invention of tablets, especially the iPad, many stores and businesses are losing the huge, bulky registers and using this hand-held device. Businesses can not only use the tablet as a register, but they can also use it as a marketing stategy. With many companies putting their logos and other marketing tools on the tablet it allows the business to increase profits. Another aspect of using a tablet as a register, is the accessibility. Most everyone has the ability to use their tablet as a register with the invention of different apps. This makes it easy for small businesses and vendors to obtain this accessibility. For example, you could use a tablet as a register at a yard sale, for those customers that don't have cash on them.
File2:
Mobile point-of-sale systems are becoming more popular, with 54 million units expected to be installed in businesses by 2019. Using a tablet for a POS system provides mobility and a seamless platform for both sales and inventory management. You can take it with you on the go, or use it in a restaurant to take orders or payment tableside. Note that some tablet POS systems makers offer bundles that include a tablet and the POS software. If you're considering using tablet-based POS system that does'nt include a tablet, you'll need to buy one separately. For those situations, there are five best tablets for mobile POS systems. Each is best-suited for different work enviroments. The first thing to consider is the software for your chosen POS system may require a certain operating system. Be sure to check on any requirements before purchasing your tablet. There are many different things to consider before deciding which is right for your company.
File3:
There are many different things to take into account when choosing the right tablet for your POS system. We'll dig into each tablet in depth, to find which is right for you. With many features and things to consider. Remember that to take credit and debit cardds with your tablet POS, you'll need a merchant account. With so many tablet options, it can be difficult to find the right one to use. Although each tablet above is a solid device, each one fits different business needs and budgets. The perfect solution for your business depends on how and where the POS will be used. Whether you're looking for a rugged device, extreme portability, ease of use, or an all-in-one business productivity device, mobile POS solutions are available to fit your needs.

But there was no time to waste in a race to become the first person to cross Antarctica alone from shore to shore without any aid or support. So when O'Brady and Louis Rudd, a captain in the British Army, unzipped their tents and saw the misery they would experience on the 23rd day of their journey, they confronted it like it was any other day. They would consume warm fluids and high-calorie snacks, and push through the unmatched exhaustion that comes from hauling a 300- poud Norwegian sled, known as pulk, for 10 to 12 hours. Each day these two competitors, who have been traveling miles apart from each other and have not communicated each other, have emerged amid an icy desert to battle the elements and one another. They've felt pain and frustration, taken risks and shed tears. As they skied through the whiteout on Monday, they stared at compasses strapped to their chests to stay on course toward the South Pole, unable to see up or down or side to side, with their sleds catching on wavelike ridges of ice known as sastrugi; forcing the occasional tumble. On this expedition, for both men, tripping and falling hard -- countless times -- is all part of the schedule.
File2:
O'Brady wakes up at 6:10 a.m. and lights his stove on the ice in the vestibule of his tent. He boils water for this morning meal of oatmeal with extra oil and protein powder. While he finishes breakfast, he empties his and packs his pulk. By then, it's about 7 a.m., which is when Rudd wakes up and lights his stove, which he also rests in the vestibule of his tent. Rudd's day starts with instant hot chocolate -- he's carrying more than 15 pounds of hot chocolate powder in his sled. He also eats a freeze- dried meal of porridge or onions and eggs. It's all about calorie loading on an expedition like this. Though both men consume as many calories as possible , they still expend more calories than they take in. After all, there are only so many calories someone can carry in a sled and still be able to move it.
File3:
Both men also struggled to manage their perspiration. Sweat can be deadly in a polar environment because moisture can freeze on the skin when motion stops, which can send core temperatures plummeting toward hypothermia. Both men independently addressed the problem by skiing in just their base layers to stay cool and swear-free. Their exertion kept them plenty warm despite the subfreezing temperatures. They have been climbing more than 9000 feet from sea level to the South Pole (altitude 9301 feet). They have felt the incline but haven't always seen it, even on clear days, because there are rarely any points of reference they can use to gauge slope or distance. "You know by the pulk," Rudd said. "You're suddenly working 10 times harder. You look around and you can't teel you're going uphill, but you must be because you can really feel it."

There was once a velveteen rabbit, and in the beginning he was really splendid. He was fat and bunchy,as a rabbit should be; his coat was spotted brown and white, he had real thread whiskers, and his eyes were lined with pink sateen. On Christmas morning, when he sat wedged in the top of the Boy's stocking, with a sprig of holly between his paws, the effect was charming. There were other things in the stocking, nuts and oranges and a toy engine, and chocolate almonds and a clockwork mouse, but the Rabbit was quite the best of all. For at least two hours the Boy loved him, and then Aunts and Uncles came to dinner, and there was a great rustling of tissue paper and unwrapping of parcels, and in the excitement of looking at all the new presents the Velveteen Rabbit was forgotten. For a long time he lived in the toy cupboard or on the nursery floor, and no one thought very much about him. He was naturally shy, and being only made of velveteen, some of the more expensive toys quite snubbled him. The Rabbit could not claim to be a model of anything, for he didn't know that real Rabbits existed; he thought they were all stuffed with sawdust like himself, and he understood that sawdust was quite out-of-date and should never be mentioned in modern circles.Between them all the poor little Rabbit was made to feel himself very insignificant and commonplace, and the only person who was kind to him at all was the Skin Horse.

ONCE there was a gentleman who married, for his second wife, the proudest and the most haughty woman that was ever seen. She had, by a former husband, two daughters of her own humor, who were, indeed, exactly like her in all things. He had likewise, by another wife, a young daughter, but of unparralled goodness and sweetness of temper, which she took from her mother, who was the best creature in the world. No sooner were the ceremonies of the wedding over but the mother-in-law began to show herself in true colors. She could not bear the good qualities of this pretty girl, and the less becasue they made her own daughters appear the more odious. She employed her in the meanest work of the house: she scoured the dishes, tables, etc., and scrubbed madam's chamber, and those of misses, her daughters; she lay up in a sorry garret, upon a wretched straw bed, while her sisters lay in fine rooms, with floors all inlaid, upon beds of the very newest fashion, and where they had looking-glasses so large that they might see themselves at their full length from head to foot. The poor girl bore all patiently, and dared not tell her father, who would have rattled her off; for his wife governed him entirely. When she had done her work, she used to go into the chimney-corner, and sit down among cinders and ashes, which made her commonly be called Cinderwench; but the youngest, who was not so rude and uncivil as the eldest, called her cinderella. However, Cinderella, notwithstanding her mean apparel, was a hundered times handsomer than her sisters, though they were always dressed very richly.

ONCE upon a time there was a prince who wanted to marry a princess; but she would have to be a real princess. He travelled all over the world to find one, but nowhere could he get what he wanted. There were princesses enough, but it was difficult to find out whether they were real ones. There was always something about them that was not as it should be. So he came home again and was sad, for he would have liked very much to have a real princess. One evening a terrible storm came on; there was thunder and lightning, and the rain poured down in torrents. Suddenly a knocking was heard at the city gate, and the old king went to open it.It was a princess standing out there in front of the gate. But, good gracious! what a sight the rain and the wind had made her look. The water ran down from her hair and clothes; it ran down into the toes of her shoes and out again at the heels. And yet she said that she was a real princess.Well, we'll soon find that out, thought the old queen. But she said nothing, went into the bed-room, took all the bedding off the bedstead, and laid a pea on the bottom; then she took twenty mattresses and laid them on the pea, and then twenty eider-down beds on top of the mattresses. On this the princess had to lie all night. In the morning she was asked how she had slept.Oh, very badly! said she. I have scarcely closed my eyes all night. Heaven only knows what was was in the bed, but I was lying on something hard, so that I am black and blue all over my body. Its horrible! Now they knew that she was a real princess because she had felt the pea right through the twenty mattresses and the twenty eider-down beds.

If you didn't even grow up in the '90s, how can you claim Michael Jordan is a better basketball player than Lebron? I have always found it ridiculous when people my age try to make an argument for a player they have never seen play. If anything, make a case for Kobe. Shoutout to Kobe.

I do not know too much about anti-virus software, nor do I know the difference between other providers. Professor Robinett suggested I try out malwarebytes which I have some success with. I do a lot of online streaming (this is how I watch most NFL and NBA games)and malwarebytes has helped block malicious pop ups and web pages from opening on my PC. I have not heard of Kaspersky until Professor Saunders mentioned it to me, but the early reserach I've done on it leads me to believe Kaspersky is the top anti-virus software currently on the market.

One morning, a man found himself walking along a deserted street in a small town. He had no idea what he was doing or how he got there in the first place, or where he had been earlier. He didn't even know what time it was. He saw a woman walking toward him and stopped her. "I'm afraid I forgot my watch," he said with a polite smile. "Can you please tell me the time?" When the woman saw him, she screamed and ran away. The man was shocked. A few minutes later, he noticed that other people were afraid of him too. Whenever they saw him coming, they flattened themselves against a building, recoiled in horror or ran across the street to stay out of his way. "There must be something wrong with me," thought the man. "I'd better go home as soon as possible." He hailed a taxi, but when the taxi driver laid eyes on him, he floored the accelerator and sped away. "This is crazy!" the man said to himself. He couldn't figure out what was wrong and had no idea what was going on. All he knew was that he was scared and confused. "Maybe my wife can come and pick me up," he thought. He found a telephone and called home, expecting to hear his wife's sweet voice. Instead, a strage voice answered. "Is Mrs. Sullivan there?" he asked. "I'm sorry, she isn't," the voice said. "Her husband died a few days ago in a horrible car crash and she's attending his funeral."

Lexi Morgan had a dream. She was walking up a dark staircase and when she got to the top, she walked into a bedroom. The bedroom carpet was made up large squares that looked like trapdoors. And each of the windows was fastened shut with big nails that stuck up out of the wood. In her dream, Lexi went to sleep in the bedroom, but during the night, a woman with a pale face, black eyes and long black hair slipped silently into the room. She leaned over the bed and whispered, "This is an evil place. Run away while you still can." Then the black haired woman grabbed her arm. Lexi Morgan woke up with a scream and lay awake the rest of the night, shivering and shaking with fear. In the morning she told her landlady that she had decided not to go to Kingston after all. "I can't tell you why," she said, "but I just can't bring myself to go there." "Then why don't you go to Dorset?" the landlady asked. "It's a pretty town, and it isn't too far." So Lexi Morgan went to Dorset. Someone told her she could find a room in a house at the top of the hill. It was pleasant-looking, and the landlady there, a plump, motherly woman, was nice as could be. "Let's look at the room," she said. "I think you will like it." They walked up a dark, carved staircase, like the one in Lexi's dream. "In these old houses the staircases are all the same,"Lexi thought. But when the landlady opened the door to the bedroom, it was in her dream, with the same carpet that looked like trapdoors and the same windows fastened with big nails. "This is just a coincidence," Lexi told herself. "How do you like it?" the landlady asked. "I'm not sure," Lexi said. "Well, take your time," the landlady said. "I'll bring up some tea while you think about it." Lexi sat on the bed staring at the trapdoors and the big nails. Soon there was a knock on the door. "It's the landlady with tea," she thought. But it wasn't the landlady. It was the woman with pale face and the black eyes and long hair. Lexi Morgan grabbed her things and fled.

There was a sixteen-year-old boy who got a summer job working on his grandfather's farm. One morning, his grandfather sent him into town on an errand to buy provisions. The boy drove the pickup truck into town and parked outside the market. As he was walking along the street, he was jostled by somebody in the crowd. When he turned around, he was shocked to see it was the Grim Reaper...Death. As he stood there in the marketplace, Death beckoned to him. The terrified boy jumped back ran back to the pickup truck and drove back to the farm as fast as he could. When he got there, white-faced and trembling, he told his grandfather what had happened. "Let me take the truck," he begged. "I'll go to the city and hide. Death will never be able to find me there. It's the only way to avoid my fate." His grandfather told him he could have the truck and the boy floored the accelerator and tore off at high speed. After he left, the grandfather went into town looking for Death. Eventually, he found the Grim Reaper standing in the crowded marketplace. The grandfather walked right up to Death and asked, "why did you frighten my grandson when you saw him this morning? He's just a boy. Only sixteen years of age. He's too young to die." "I'm sorry about that," said Death. "I did not mean to beckon to him. I was just startled. You see, I was very surprsied to see him here in the marketplace. I have an appointment with him this afternoon...in the city."

Hello World! This is a test. One paragraph, written in vi, is required. Each line can be no longer than 75 characters. Here is a third line, for good measure.

This is paragraph two. I have run out of things to write about. The weather sure is great today! I am writing this file in class right now. This line is exactly 40 characters long.

Now it is time to write the third file. Note to self: do not forget to set permissions to 600 for each of these files once you are done writing this third paragraph. Also, I will need to creat a brief file, in a new directory.

This is File1 And what a File it is, I could go on and on and on about this file and how helpful it will be for all those that happen upon it. What a time to be alive with a file such as this, we are all lucky to witness it's presence. All Praise to this file, and its continued brilliance.
File2:
This is File2, Some would say that File2 is better than File1, but that part of a larger conversation. Who's to say that one should have more admiration for File1 than File2 based on what they knew that was already familiar. File1 may be around longer than File2, but does that mean we should sacrifice newer, different things for the sake of tradition? I can understand why the average Joe would stick with File1, but I repect the man that dares to believe a newer, more relevent file like that of File2.
File3:
This is File3. Now, I understand there has been alot of debate in the previous files about whether File1 or File2 are better thant the other, but have you thought to give File3 a chance? Sure Files1 and 2 have been around longer than File3, but the entire argument that File2 has surmounted was around the innovative spirit that is trying new files. I don't me to pressure the reader to chose one file over another, simply that they should at least consider File3 as an, option. The more curious you are about different Files, the more understanding you may have about the single File you have decided on.

The town was in flames. The narrow streets leading to the moat and the first terrace bleched smoke and embers, flames devouring the densely clustered thatched houses and licking at the castle walls. From the west, from the harbour gate, the screams and clamour of vicious battle and the dull blows of a battering ram smashing against the walls grew even louder. Their attackers had surrounded them unexpectedly, shattering the barricades which had been held by no more than a few soldiers, a handful of townsmen carrying halberds and some crossbowmen from the guild. Their horses, decked out with flowing black caparisons. flew over the barricades like spectres, their riders' bright, glistening blades sowing death amongst the fleeing defenders. Ciri felt the knight who carried her before him on his saddle abruptly spur his horse. She heard his cry. "Hold on," he shouted. "Hold on!" Other knights wearing the colours of Cintra overtook them, sparring, even in full flight, with the Nilfgaardians. Ciri caught a glimpse of the skirmish from the corner of her eye - the crazed swirl of blue-gold and black cloaks amidst the clash of steel, the clatter of blades against shields, the neighing of horses.

Cloud gaming is an umbrella term used to describe a form of online game distribution. The most common methods of cloud gaming currently are video (or pixel) streaming and file streaming. "Cloud gaming", also in some cases called "gaming on demand", is a type of online gaming that allows direct and on-demand video streaming of games onto computers, consoles, and mobile devices, similar to video on demand, through the use of a thin client. The actual game is stored, executed, and rendered on the remote operator's or game company's server and the video results are streamed directly to s consumer's computers over the internet. this allows access to games without the need of a console and largely makes the capability of the user's computer unimportant, as the server is the system that is running the processing needs. The controls and button presses from the user are transmitted directly to the server, where they are recorded, and the server then sends back the game's response to the input controls. Companies that use this type of cloud gaming include NVIDIA (GeForce NOW), LOUDPLAY, Playkey, PlayGiga, CiNOW, Ubitus. Gaming on demand is a game service which takes advantage of a broadband connection, large server clusters, encryption and compression to stream game content to a subscriber's device. Users can play games without downloading or installing the actual game. Game content is not stored on the user's hard drive and game code execution occurs primarily at the server cluser, so the subscriber can use a less powerful cumputer to play the game than the game would normally require, since the server does all performance- intensive operations usually done by the end user's computer. Most cloud gaming platforms are closed and proprietary; the first open-source cloud gaming platform was only released in April, 2013. P2P cloudless gaming - a type of cloud gaming, where remote computers for game execution represented by community of individuals. Critical difference from cloud gaming is that game is executed on actual PC and it is streamed on one-to-one basis. The actual game is stored, executed, and rendered on the remote computer station and the video results are streamed directly to a consumer's computer over the internet. P2P cloudless gaming allows closing latency gap: remote computer could be located within one internet provider. Network protocol in P2P cloud gaming smartly chooses the best fit between remote computer and consumer's device.

Fallout 76 is the earliest game in the fictional Fallout timeline. It takes place 25 years after the "Great War" that killed most of the world, decades before the events of 1997's Fallout. While a lot of its systems and stylistic flourishes are reminiscent of developer Bethesda's past 3D Fallout games, 76 feels almost like a stripped-down reboot. The dialogue trees have been scrapped. The karma meter is gone. No faction wars. No non-player characters walking around. No robot detectives, no friendly feral ghouls, no fancy cocktail parties from which to sit and watch the world burn. There's just you, ttying to build a refuge in the woods where you can store all of the junk you pick up as you explore an overwhelmingly vast stretch of irradiated West Virginia. Play long enough, and you can launch a nuclear bomb of your own. You play as a character, man or woman, who made it into a protective vault just before the bombs dropped. It's now 2102 and your vault, Vault 76, has just opened. Its inhabitants have been unfrozen and released to explore and reclaim Appalachia, but you quickly discover that the surrounding areas have been overrun by zombie-like creatures called the Scorched. The game's main story, such as it is, has you retrace the footsteps of Vault 76's commanding officer to find out more about the Scorch plague, whether it can be stopped, and how to take control of the region's remaining nuclear missiles. What follows is a loose confederation of fetch quests, crafting missions, and protracted, glitchy shootouts that you cna play alone or with other people. Some of these individual chapters can be heartbreaking on their own, but feel anticlimactic and wearingly obligatory when taken as a whole. I sometimes excavated interesting backstories about West Virginians' lives before the war and how they struggled to adapt to their new reality: say, a cook rediscovering his faith after the apocalypse, or a raider thinking about overdosing rather than resorting to cannibalism in order to survive. Your vault's commander, who in the Fallout-verse is known as the Overseer, is a fascinating figure. She's expertly voiced by actor Adrienne Barbeau, and comes across as a leader full of compassion but also hubris. She spends many audio logs intimately chronicling of her life before the Vault. I would have liked to have meet her. Unfortunately, like everyone else who once occupied Fallout 76's Mountain State, I never got the chance. Despite that, the conclusion of the Overseer's quest line is one of Fallout 76's rare narrative payoffs, at least in theory. Too bad the game glitched out on me during what was supposed to be the climax.

Centuries before the Human-Covenant War would rage across the galaxy, a similar conflict erupted between the Prophets and the Elites-two alien races at odds over the sacred artifacts left by the powerful Forerunners, who disappeared eons ago. Although they would eventually form a stable alliance called the Covenant, there are those on both sides who question this fateful union. From an Elite Sprinter group rebelling against the Covenant during the time of its founding...to a brave Prophet caught in the machinations of the new leadership...to the root of the betrayal that would ultimately shatter the Covenant many years later, this is the untold chapter of the most unexpected heroes emerging from a realm filled with shocking treachery and ceaseless wonder. While Spartans get all the glory, no soldier-not even the legendary Master Chief-wins a war on his own. Gunnery Sergeant Edward Buck and his team of Orbital Drop Shock Trooper (ODSTs) played a mjor role in saving Earth from all-out invasion at the end of the Covenant War-acts of bravery and ingenuity that did not got unnoticed by the United Nations Space Command. Now, after many Spartans have been killed in battle and the Master Chief is listed as MIA, the UNSC decides to create a new generation of Spartans to defend humanity from threats both outside-and within. When they come to Buck with an extraordinary proposition, he is forced to make a life-altering decision. With the Covenant War finally over, is it time for him to retire to the sidelines for a life he could only dream about...or is he prepared to step up and become part of the military's new blood? Find. Claim. Profit. In a post-war galaxy littered with scrap, it's the salvager's motto. And with a fast ship and a lust for adventure, Rion Forge has certainly made her mark on the trade. When the discovery of a wrecked UNSC crusier brings Rion's past back to haunt her, stirring fresh hope into a decades-old wound, she's hell-bent on finding answers: What really happened to her father and his ship, the Spirit of Fire?
File2:
December 2553. Less than a year after the end of the Covenant War, a string of violent incidents continues to threaten the tenuous peace in human-held space...culminating in the assassination of UNSC fleet admiral Graselyn Tuwa and the abduction of her family. It is a provocation so outrageous that the Office of Naval Intelligence must retaliate swiftly and feriously-but only only after its operatives identify her killer and rescue the hostages. This mission will be the first for homicide-detective-turned- ONI-operative Veta Lopis and her young team of Spartan-IIIs, and something feels wrong from the start. The obvious suspect is an infamous Brute who leads the Keeper of the One Freedom, an ex-Covenant splinter group in fierce opposition to the UNSC. But Lopis and her team soon realize that the truth is much more insidious than they could have ever imagined. Molly Patel was only seven years old when the alien alliance known as the Covenant destroyed her homeworld and killed her family. As one of the few to escape the glassing of Paris IV, and despite the United Nations Space Command winning the war on behalf of humanity, Molly never forgot how much she had lost.
File3:
It is 2555, more than two years after the Master Chief went missing-in-action following a decisive conflict on Installation 00-the massive, extragalactic Forerunner construct known as the Ark-as part of the final chapter in humanity's bloddy thirty-year struggle against the overhelming forces of the Covenant. Now, as a tenuous peace exists between the humans and the Elites, a startling discover is made...and the riddle behind its Forerunnner origins could very well unravel these dangerous secrets. Just hours following their climactic battle on the Forerunner planet Genesis, the Spartans of Blue Team and Fireteam Osiris find themselves running for their lives from the malevolent machinations of the now-renegade artifical intelligence Cortana. But even as the attempt to stay one step ahead, new trouble seems to find find Spartan Edward Buck no matter where he turns. A secret mission planned by the Office of Naval Intelligence could possibly help turn the tide, and has Buck reluctantly agreeing to reform his old team, Alpha-Nine. But if the band is really getting back together for this one, that means everybody-including the Spartan who Buck never wants to see again, the one who commited the ultimate betrayal of trust...

Topic: Netbooks, what happened to them?
Web
Files
File1:
A netbook is a generic name that refers to an inexpensive, small computer that was developed in 2007. Nebooks were in the same family as chromebooks and mobile devices. They were advertised for being low weight and inexspensive. The price was kept low by lowering the specifications of the computing abilities. Netbooks did not have an optical drive and had small screens and keyboards. This product was popularly distributed by wireless data carriers to customers in order to try and get them to extend their contract with the carrier. By 2011, tablet computers and iPads started to gain popularity and the demand for netbooks decreased dramatically. Other companies were able to develop a small, compact computer that weighed as much as a netbook but had similar computing power to that of a desktop PC. Netbooks hardware was generally much less powerful than the standard laptop or desktop PC. Some of them were being sold without a hard drive and were using solid-state storage instead. Their storage capacity was being capped at 128 GB which in today's market, is usually what a typical mobile phone caps off at. Netbooks also lacked a lot of processing power. They were designed for power efficiency instead of speed. they were not designed for gaming, streaming, nor intense graphics, but rather more generic applicable uses like word processing, spreadsheets, and other basic day to day functions. However, this made them more popular and useful for business applications. The affordable prices along with the ability to do what most business professionals need to do on their devices made them a good option for businesses.
File2:
Netbooks were at their highest market share (around 20%) in 2010 but then began to decline with the introduction of Apple's iPad. Apple then later introduced the MacBook air which was far superior to any netbook that was on the shelf. The first MacBook was three to four times more expensive with an MSRP of $999. Netbooks market share continuously fell as technology became more advance and netbooks did not keep up with the growth. Tablets, MacBooks and Chromebooks continued to dominate the market as netbook sales fell 25% in 2012. Netbooks made a small comeback in November of 2012 when HP made a case for them. They developed a small netbook (2.8lbs). It was designed for consumers who still wanted a tablet-like device but would prefer to have a physical keyboard. It contained a 1.6GHz dual-core Intel atom N2600 processor and had much more storage capabilities than earlier models of netbooks (capping off at around 320GB).
File3:
At the bottom line, the general public opinion reflects the fact that Apple killed the netbook. Althought Apple's devices were much more expensive, it seemed to be worth it to the consumers to get a much more usable device that would likely last longer and be much more efficient. apple made claims that "Nobody really wanted a netbook perse," but was rather using it as a budget friendly way to get around the block with a cheap form of technology. iPads became much more affordable with every new model release and proved to be a much better alternative to the netbook. Apple focused on the "computing experience". This meant that yes, the netbooks did work and were relatively functional. But at the end of the day, the small screens and keyboards created a terrible user experience and had no one excited to get on their computer and do whatever they needed to do. Netbooks were a market-share play. The profit margins on these devices were so small that the only way these companies could increase their profies were to try and grab up as much of the market as possible. All of these factors contributed to the downfall and ultimately, the death of the netbook.

Err in the direction of kindness. Do those things that incline you toward the big questions, and avoid the things that would reduce you and make you trivial. That luminous part of you that exists beyond personality — your soul, if you will — is as bright and shining as any that has ever been. Bright as Shakespeare’s, bright as Gandhi’s, bright as Mother Teresa’s. Clear away everything that keeps you separate from this secret luminous place. Believe it exists, come to know it better, nurture it, share its fruits tirelessly. (542)

Hello. My name is Amritha Nair. This is File 1 of my project. It is Thursday afternoon, and quite cold outside. There will be real information here later on, this is to fill the file with some lines.
File2:
Hello, this is file 2. File 2 is a really good file. Thanksgiving break was great, but now it's that stressful time between fall and winter break. BUT we're almost there so it's okay...i guess:)
File3:
Now here we have file 3! This is also a pretty decent file. I'm really just typing at this point, because I'm not sure what else to say. This made me realize writing random things is harder than knowing what to write.

It was a dark autumn night. The old banker was walking up and down his study and remembering how, fifteen years before, he had given a party one autumn evening. There had been many clever men there, and there had been interestin conversations. Among other things they had talked of capital punishment. The majority of the guests, among whom were many journalists and intellectual men, disapproved of the death penalty. They considered that form of punishment out of date, immoral, and unsuitable for Christian States. In the opinion of some of them the death penalty ought to be replaced everywhere by imprisonment for life. "I don't agree with you," said their host the banker. "I have not tried either the death penalty or imprisonment for life, but if one may judge _a priori_, the death penalty is more moral and more humane than imprisonment for life. Capital punishment kills a man at once, but lifelong imprisonment kills him slowly. Which executioner is the more humane, he who kills you in a few minutes or he who drags the life out of you in the course of many years?" "Both are equally immoral," observed one of the guests, "for they both have the same object -- to take away life. The State is not God. It has not the right to take away what it cannot restore when it wants to." Among the guests was a young lawyer, a young man of five-and-twenty. When he was asked his opinion, he said: "The death sentence and the life sentence are equally immoral, but if I had to choose between the death penalty and imprisonment for life, I would certainly choose the second. To live anyhow is better than not at all."
File2:
A lively discussion arose. The banker, who was younger and more nervous in those days, was suddenly carried away by excitement; he struck the table with his fist and shouted at the young man: "It's not true! I'll bet you two millions you wouldn't stay in solitary confinement for five years." "If you mean that in earnest," said the young man, "I'll take the bet, but I would stay not five but fifteen years." "Fifteen? Done!" cried the banker. "Gentlemen, I stake two millions!" "Agreed! You stake your millions and I stake my freedom!" said the young man. And this wild, senseless bet was carried out! The banker, spoilt and frivolous, with millions beyond his reckoning, was delighted at the bet. At supper he made fun of the young man, and said: "Think better of it, young man, while there is still time. To me two millions are a trifle, but you are losing three or four of the best years of your life. I say three or four, because you won't stay longer. Don't forget either, you unhappy man, that voluntary confinement is a great deal harder to bear than compulsory. The thought that you have the right to step out in liberty at any moment will poison your whole existence in prison. I am sorry for you." And now the banker, walking to and fro, remembered all this, and asked himself: "What was the object of that bet? What is the good of that man's losing fifteen years of his life and my throwing away two millions? Can it prove that the death penalty is better or worse than imprisonment for life? No, no. It was all nonsensical and meaningless. On my part it was the caprice of a pampered man, and on his part simple greed for money. . . ."
File3:
Then he remembered what followed that evening. It was decided that the young man should spend the years of his captivity under the strictest supervision in one of the lodges in the banker's garden. It was agreed that for fifteen years he should not be free to cross the threshold of the lodge, to see human beings, to hear the human voice, or to receive letters and newspapers. He was allowed to have a musical instrument and books, and was allowed to write letters, to drink wine, and to smoke. By the terms of the agreement, the only relations he could have with the outer world were by a little window made purposely for that object. He might have anything he wanted -- books, music, wine, and so on -- in any quantity he desired by writing an order, but could only receive them through the window. The agreement provided for every detail and every trifle that would make his imprisonment strictly solitary, and bound the young man to stay there _exactly_ fifteen years, beginning from twelve o'clock of November 14, 1870, and ending at twelve o'clock of November 14, 1885. The slightest attempt on his part to break the conditions, if only two minutes before the end, released the banker from the obligation to pay him two millions. For the first year of his confinement, as far as one could judge from his brief notes, the prisoner suffered severely from loneliness and depression. The sounds of the piano could be heard continually day and night from his lodge. He refused wine and tobacco. Wine, he wrote, excites the desires, and desires are the worst foes of the prisoner; and besides, nothing could be more dreary than drinking good wine and seeing no one. And tobacco spoilt the air of his room. In the first year the books he sent for were principally of a light character; novels with a complicated love plot, sensational and fantastic stories, and so on. In the second year the piano was silent in the lodge, and the prisoner asked only for the classics. In the fifth year music was audible again, and the prisoner asked for wine. Those who watched him through the window said that all that year he spent doing nothing but eating and drinking and lying on his bed, frequently yawning and angrily talking to himself. He did not read books. Sometimes at night he would sit down to write; he would spend hours writing, and in the morning tear up all that he had written. More than once he could be heard crying. In the second half of the sixth year the prisoner began zealously studying languages, philosophy, and history. He threw himself eagerly into these studies -- so much so that the banker had enough to do to get him the books he ordered. In the course of four years some six hundred volumes were procured at his request. It was during this period that the banker received the following letter from his prisoner: "My dear Jailer, I write you these lines in six languages. Show them to people who know the languages. Let them read them. If they find not one mistake I implore you to fire a shot in the garden. That shot will show me that my efforts have not been thrown away. The geniuses of all ages and of all lands speak different languages, but the same flame burns in them all. Oh, if you only knew what unearthly happiness my soul feels now from being able to understand them!" The prisoner's desire was fulfilled. The banker ordered two shots to be fired in the garden. Then after the tenth year, the prisoner sat immovably at the table and read nothing but the Gospel. It seemed strange to the banker that a man who in four years had mastered six hundred learned volumes should waste nearly a year over one thin book easy of comprehension. Theology and histories of religion followed the Gospels. In the last two years of his confinement the prisoner read an immense quantity of books quite indiscriminately. At one time he was busy with the natural sciences, then he would ask for Byron or Shakespeare. There were notes in which he demanded at the same time books on chemistry, and a manual of medicine, and a novel, and some treatise on philosophy or theology. His reading suggested a man swimming in the sea among the wreckage of his ship, and trying to save his life by greedily clutching first at one spar and then at another.

Once upon a time there was a wicked sprite, indeed he was the most mischievous of all sprites. One day he was in a very good humor, for he had made a mirror with the power of causing all that was good and beautiful when it was reflected therein, to look poor and mean; but that which was good-for-nothing and looked ugly was shown magnified and increased in ugliness. In this mirror the most beautiful landscapes looked like boiled spinach, and the best persons were turned into frights, or appeared to stand on their heads; their faces were so distorted that they were not to be recognised; and if anyone had a mole, you might be sure that it would be magnified and spread over both nose and mouth. "That's glorious fun!" said the sprite. If a good thought passed through a man's mind, then a grin was seen in the mirror, and the sprite laughed heartily at his clever discovery. All the little sprites who went to his school--for he kept a sprite school--told each other that a miracle had happened; and that now only, as they thought, it would be possible to see how the world really looked. They ran about with the mirror; and at last there was not a land or a person who was not represented distorted in the mirror. So then they thought they would fly up to the sky, and have a joke there. The higher they flew with the mirror, the more terribly it grinned: they could hardly hold it fast. Higher and higher still they flew, nearer and nearer to the stars, when suddenly the mirror shook so terribly with grinning, that it flew out of their hands and fell to the earth, where it was dashed in a hundred million and more pieces. And now it worked much more evil than before; for some of these pieces were hardly so large as a grain of sand, and they flew about in the wide world, and when they got into people's eyes, there they stayed; and then people saw everything perverted, or only had an eye for that which was evil. This happened because the very smallest bit had the same power which the whole mirror had possessed. Some persons even got a splinter in their heart, and then it made one shudder, for their heart became like a lump of ice. Some of the broken pieces were so large that they were used for windowpanes, through which one could not see one's friends. Other pieces were put in spectacles; and that was a sad affair when people put on their glasses to see well and rightly. Then the wicked sprite laughed till he almost choked, for all this tickled his fancy. The fine splinters still flew about in the air: and now we shall hear what happened next.
File2:
In a large town, where there are so many houses, and so many people, that there is no roof left for everybody to have a little garden; and where, on this account, most persons are obliged to content themselves with flowers in pots; there lived two little children, who had a garden somewhat larger than a flower-pot. They were not brother and sister; but they cared for each other as much as if they were. Their parents lived exactly opposite. They inhabited two garrets; and where the roof of the one house joined that of the other, and the gutter ran along the extreme end of it, there was to each house a small window: one needed only to step over the gutter to get from one window to the other. The children's parents had large wooden boxes there, in which vegetables for the kitchen were planted, and little rosetrees besides: there was a rose in each box, and they grew splendidly. They now thought of placing the boxes across the gutter, so that they nearly reached from one window to the other, and looked just like two walls of flowers. The tendrils of the peas hung down over the boxes; and the rose-trees shot up long branches, twined round the windows, and then bent towards each other: it was almost like a triumphant arch of foliage and flowers. The boxes were very high, and the children knew that they must not creep over them; so they often obtained permission to get out of the windows to each other, and to sit on their little stools among the roses, where they could play delightfully. In winter there was an end of this pleasure. The windows were often frozen over; but then they heated copper farthings on the stove, and laid the hot farthing on the windowpane, and then they had a capital peep-hole, quite nicely rounded; and out of each peeped a gentle friendly eye--it was the little boy and the little girl who were looking out. His name was Kay, hers was Gerda. In summer, with one jump, they could get to each other; but in winter they were obliged first to go down the long stairs, and then up the long stairs again: and out-of-doors there was quite a snow-storm. The flake of snow grew larger and larger; and at last it was like a young lady, dressed in the finest white gauze, made of a million little flakes like stars. She was so beautiful and delicate, but she was of ice, of dazzling, sparkling ice; yet she lived; her eyes gazed fixedly, like two stars; but there was neither quiet nor repose in them. She nodded towards the window, and beckoned with her hand. The little boy was frightened, and jumped down from the chair; it seemed to him as if, at the same moment, a large bird flew past the window.
File3:
But what became of little Gerda when Kay did not return? Where could he be? Nobody knew; nobody could give any intelligence. All the boys knew was, that they had seen him tie his sledge to another large and splendid one, which drove down the street and out of the town. Nobody knew where he was; many sad tears were shed, and little Gerda wept long and bitterly; at last she said he must be dead; that he had been drowned in the river which flowed close to the town. Oh! those were very long and dismal winter evenings! And, as it seemed to her, the blue waves nodded in a strange manner; then she took off her red shoes, the most precious things she possessed, and threw them both into the river. But they fell close to the bank, and the little waves bore them immediately to land; it was as if the stream would not take what was dearest to her; for in reality it had not got little Kay; but Gerda thought that she had not thrown the shoes out far enough, so she clambered into a boat which lay among the rushes, went to the farthest end, and threw out the shoes. But the boat was not fastened, and the motion which she occasioned, made it drift from the shore. She observed this, and hastened to get back; but before she could do so, the boat was more than a yard from the land, and was gliding quickly onward. Little Gerda was very frightened, and began to cry; but no one heard her except the sparrows, and they could not carry her to land; but they flew along the bank, and sang as if to comfort her, "Here we are! Here we are!" The boat drifted with the stream, little Gerda sat quite still without shoes, for they were swimming behind the boat, but she could not reach them, because the boat went much faster than they did. The banks on both sides were beautiful; lovely flowers, venerable trees, and slopes with sheep and cows, but not a human being was to be seen.

Perhaps my fate was sealed when I sold my three-year-old sister. My father had taken me to a couple of cattle auctions, not minding that I was a girl-this was before Missy was born, of course-and I'd loved the fast talk and the intensity of the whole thing. So the day after my seventh birthday party, where Missy did a song for everyone while I sat alone, my chin in my hand, and meditated behind my still uncut birthday cake, it seemed to met that here wasa a charming and beautiful little asset that I had no further use for and could be liquidated to a good effect. So I gather a passel of children from our gated community in Houston, kids with serious money, and I had Miss do a bit of her song once more, and I said, "Ladies and gentlemen, no greater or more complete perfection of animal beauty ever stood on two legs than the little girl who stands before you. She has prizewinning breeding and good teeth. She will neither hook, kick, strike, nor bite you. She is the pride and joy and greatest treasure of the Dickerson family and she is now available to you. Who will start the bidding for this future blue-ribbon winner? Who'll offer fifty cents? Fifty cents. Who'll give me fifty?" I saw nothing but blank stares before me. I'd gotten all these kids together but I still hadn't quite gotten them into the spirit of the thing. So I looked one of these kids in the eyes and I said, "You, Tony Speck. Aren't your parents rich enough to give you an allowance of fifty cents?" He made a hard, scrunched-up face and he said, "A dollar." And I was off. I finally sold her for six dollars and twenty-five cents to a quiet girl up the street who daddy was in oil. She was an only child, a thing I made her feel sorry about when the bidding slowed down at five bucks.

Doree had to take three buses-one to Kincardine, where she waited for one to London, where she waited again, for the city bus out to the facility. She started the trip on a Sunday at nine in the morning. Because of the waiting times between buses, it took her until about two in the afternoon to travel the hundred-odd miles. All that sitting, either on buses or in the depots, was not a thing she should have minded. Her daily work was not of the sitting-down kind. She was a chambermaid at the Comfort Inn. She scrubbed bathrooms and stripped and made beds and vacuumed rugs and wiped mirrors. She liked the work-it occupied her thoughts to a certain extent and tired her out so that she could sleep at night. She was seldom faced with a really bad mess, though some of the women she worked with could tell stories to make your hair curl. These women were older than her, and they all thought that she should try to work her way up. They told her that she should get trained for a job behind the desk, while she was still young and decent-looking. But she was content to do what she did. She didn't want to have to talk to people.

I struggled to recall the last occasion that I'd seen my wife naked, and it had been bright enought to see her properly. Not that year, for sure; I wasn't even certain that it had happened the year before. How could I have failed to notice such deep bruises on the body of the only person I lived with? I tried to count the fine wrinkles radiating out from the corners of my wife's eyes. Then I told her to take off all her clothes. A red flush appeared along the line of her cheekbones, which her weight loss had left indecently sharp. She tried to remonstrate with me. "What if someone sees?"

Super Mario Strikers, known as Mario Smash Football in Europe and Australia, is a five-on-five football (soccer) game developed by Next Level Games for the GameCube. The game was released in Europe and North America in late 2005, and in Japan and Australia in 2006. The game's sequel, Mario Strikers Charged, was also developed by Next Level Games and is available for the Wii. Strikers is a sports game incorporating characters from the Mario franchise. The game features the basic aspects and objectives of a football game, although no referees are present and characters can legitimately shove others out of possession of the ball. As in other games such as Mario Power Tennis, the player can use Mario-themed items such as bananas to hinder the opposition. Each team comprises a goal keeper, a captain, and three of the same secondary Mario characters known as "side kicks. In my apartment, Strikers is a very serious matter. My roomates and I are locked in a constant struggle to beat each other in a best of three match. The "First Place" player gets the right to brag as well as ridicule the Second and Third place players, with the degree of clout and rights lessening as one moves down the ladder. It has both bonded and separated the living area, with many debates starting and ending due to strikers. The moral is: If you can't handle the heat, get out of the kitchen.

More than a hundred and sixty-eight years ago, there lived a curious personage called Old Riddler. His real name was unknown to the people in that part of the country where he dwelt; but this made no difference, for the name given to him was probably just as good as his own. Indeed, I am sure that it was better, for it meant something, and very few people have names that mean anything. He was called Old Riddler for two reasons. In the first place, he was an elderly man; secondly, he was the greatest fellow to ask riddles that you ever heard of. So this name fitted him very well. Old Riddler had some very peculiar characteristics, among others, he was a gnome. Living underground for the greater part of his time, he had ample opportunities of working out curious and artful riddles, which he used to try on his fellow gnomes; and if they liked them, he would go above ground and propound his conundrums to the country people; who sometimes guessed them, but not often. The fact is, that those persons who wished to be on good terms with the old gnome never guessed his riddles. They knew that they would please him better by giving them up. He took such a pleasure in telling the answers to his riddles that no truly kind-hearted person would deprive him of it by trying to solve them.

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, in hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there. The children were nestled all snug in their beds, while visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads. And mamma in her 'kerchief, and I in my cap, had just settled our brains for a long winter's nap. When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter. Away to the window I flew like a flash, tore open the shutters and threw up the sash. The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below. When, what to my wondering eyes should appear, but a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer. With a little old driver, so lively and quick, I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick. More rapid than eagles his coursers they came, and he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name! As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly, when they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky. So up to the house-top the coursers they flew, with the sleigh full of toys, and St. Nicholas too. And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof the prancing and pawing of each little hoof. As I drew in my head, and was turning around, down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound.

One day, the cook went into the kitchen to make some gingerbread. She took some flour and water, and treacle and ginger, and mixed them all well together, and she put in some more water to make it thin, and then some more flour to make it thick, and a little salt and some spice, and then she rolled it out into a beautiful, smooth, dark-yellow dough. Then she took the square tins and cut out some square cakes for the little boys, and with some round tins she cut out some round cakes for the little girls. So she took a nice round lump of dough for his body, and a smaller lump for his head, which she pulled out a little for the neck. Two other lumps were stuck on beneath for the legs, and were pulled out into the proper shape, with feet and toes all complete, and two still smaller pieces were made into arms, with dear little hands and fingers. But the nicest work was done on the head, for the top was frizzed up into a pretty sugary hat. On either side was made a dear little ear, and in front, after the nose had been carefully moulded, a beautiful mouth was made out of a big raisin, and two bright little eyes with burnt almonds and caraway seeds. Then the gingerbread man was finished ready for baking, and a very jolly little man he was. In fact, he looked so sly that the cook was afraid he was plotting some mischief, and when the batter was ready for the oven, she put in the square cakes and she put in the round cakes; and then she put in the little gingerbread man in a far back corner, where he couldn't get away in a hurry.

Topic: RAM
Web
Files
File1:
Random Access Memory is the hardware in a computing device where the operating system, application programs and data in current use are kept so they can be quickly reached by the device's processor. RAM is the main memory in a computer, and it is much faster to read from and write to than other kinds of storage, such as a hard disk drive, solid-state drive or optical drive. Because of it's volatility, Random Access Memory can't store permanent data. RAM can be compared to a person's short-term memory, and a hard drive to a person's long-term memory. Short-term memory is focused on immediate work, but it can only keep a limited number of facts in view at any one time. Wehn a person's short-term memory fills up, it can be refreshed with facts stored in the brain's long-term memory. A computer also works this way. If RAM fills up, the computer's processor must repeatedly go to the hard disk to overlay the old data in RAM with new data. This process slows the computer's operation. A computer's hard disk can become completely full of data and unable to take any more, but RAM won't run out of memory. However, the combination of RAM and storage memory can be completely used up.
File2:
The term random access as applied to RAM comes from the fact that any storage location, also known as any memory address, can be accessed directly. Originially, the term Random Access Memory was used to distinguish regular core memory from offline memory. Offline memory typically referred to magenetic tape from which a specific piece of data could only be accessed by locating the address sequentially, starting at the beginning of the tape. RAM is organized and controlled in a way that enables data to be stored and retrieved directly to and from specific locations. RAM is similar in concept to a set of boxes in which each box can hold a 0 or a 1. Each box has a unique address that is found by counting across the columns and down the rows. A set of RAM boxes is called an array, and each box is known as a cell.
File3:
RAM is physically small and stored in microchips. It's also small in terms of the amount of data it can hold. A typical laptop computer may come with 8 gigabytes of RAM, while a hard disk drive can hold 10 terabytes. RAM microchips are gathered together into memory modules, which plug into slots in a computer's motherboard. A bus, or a set of electrical paths, is used to connect the motherboard slots to the processor. A hard drive, on the other hand stores data on the magnetized surface of what looks like a vinyl record. And, alternatively, an SSD stores data in memory chips that, unlike RAM, are nonvolatile, don't depend on having constant power and won't lose data once the power is turned off. Most PCs enable users to add RAM modules up to a certain limit. Having more RAM in a computer cuts down on the number of times the processor must read data from the hard disk, an operation that takes longer than reading data from RAM. RAM access time is in nanoseconds, while storage memory access time is in milliseconds.

The morning had dawned clear and cold, with a crispness that hinted at the end of summer. They set forth at daybreak to see a man beheaded, twenty in all, and Bran rode among them, nervous with excitement. This was the first time he had been deemed old enough to go with his lord father and his brothers to see the king's justice done. It was the ninth year of summer and the seventh of Bran's life. The man had been taken outside a small holdfast in the hills. Robb thought he was a wildling, his sword sworn to Mance Rayder, the King-beyond-the- Wall. It made Bran's skin prickle to think of it. He remembered the hearth tales Old Nan told them. The wildlings were cruel men, she said, slavers and slayers and thieves. They consorted with giants and ghouls, stole girl children in the dead of night, and drank blood from polished horns. And their women lay with the Others in the Long Night to sire terrible half- human children. But the man they found bound hand and foot to the holdfast wall awaiting the king's justice was old and scrawny, not much taller than Robb. He had lost both ears and a finger to frostbite, and he dressed all in black, the same as a brother of the Night's Watch, except that his furs were ragged and greasy.
File2:
The breath of man and horse mingled, steaming, in the cold morning air as his lord father had the man cut down from the wall and dragged before them. Robb and Jon sat tall and sitll on their horses, with Bran between them on his pony, trying to seem older than seven, trying to pretend he'd seen this all before. A faint wind blew through the holdfast gate. Over their heads flapped the banner of the Starks of Winterfell: a grey direwolf racing across an ice-white field. Bran's father sat solemnly on his horse, long brown hair stirring in the wind. His closely trimmed beard was shot with white, making him look older than his thirty-five years. He had a grim cast to his grey eyes this day, and he seemed not at all the man who would sit before the fire in the evening and talk softly of the age of heroes and the children of the forest. He had taken off Father's face, Bran thought, and donned the face of Lord Stark of Winterfell.
File3:
There were questions asked and answeres given there in the chill of the morning, but afterward Bran could not recall much of what had been said. Finally his lrd father gave a command, and two of his guardsmen dragged the ragged ma to the ironwood stump in the center of the square. They forced his head down onto the hard black wood. Lord Eddard Stark dismounted and called his ward Theon Greyjoy brought forth the sword. "Ice," that sword was called. It was as wide across as a man's hand, and taller even than Robb. The blade was Valyrian steel, spell-forged and dark as smoke. Nothing held an edge like Valyrian steel. His father peeled off his gloves and handed them to Jory Cassel, the captain of his household guard. He took hold of Ice with both hands and said, "In the name of Robert of the House Baratheon, the First of his Name, King of the Andals and the Rhoynar and the First Men, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms and Protector of the Realm, by the word of Eddard of House Stark, Lord of Winterfell and Warden of the North, I do sentence you to die." He lifted the great sword high above his head. -- A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin

Hello darkness, my old friend I've come to talk with you again Because a vision softly creeping Left its seeds while I was sleeping And the vision that was planted in my brain Still remains Within the sound of silence In restless dreams I walked alone Narrow streets of cobblestone 'Neath the halo of a street lamp I turned my collar to the cold and damp When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light That split the night And touched the sound of silence And in the naked light I saw Ten thousand people, maybe more People talking without speaking People hearing without listening People writing songs that voices never share No one dared Disturb the sound of silence
File2:
"Fools" said I, "You do not know Silence like a cancer grows Hear my words that I might teach you Take my arms that I might reach you" But my words like silent raindrops fell And echoed in the wells of silence And the people bowed and prayed To the neon god they made And the sign flashed out its warning In the words that it was forming And the sign said, "The words of the prophets Are written on the subway walls And tenement halls" And whispered in the sounds of silence

Jumped in the cab, Here I am for the first time Look to my right and I see the Hollywood sign This is all so crazy Everybody seems so famous My tummy's turnin' and I'm feelin' kinda home sick Too much pressure and I'm nervous, That's when the taxi man turned on the radio And the Jay Z song was on And the Jay Z song was on And the Jay Z song was on

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim, Because it was grassy and wanted wear; Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same, And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back. I shall be telling this wiht a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I- I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference. The Road Not Taken - Robert Frost

From childhood's hour I have not been As others were--I have not seen As others saw--I could not bring My passions from a common spring-- From the same source I have not taken My sorrow--I could not awaken My heart to joy at the same tone-- And all I lov'd--I lov'd alone-- Then--in my childhood-- in the dawn Of a most stormy life--was drawn From ev'ry depth of good and ill The mystery which binds me still-- From the torrent, or the fountain-- From the red cliff of the mountain-- From the sun that 'round me roll'd In its autumn tint of gold-- From the lighting in the sky As it passed me flying by-- From the thunder, and the storm-- And the cloud that took the form (When the rest of Heaven was blue) Of a demon in my view-- Alone - Edgar Allan Poe

All the world's a stage, And all the men and women merely players; They have their exits and their entrances, And one man in his time plays many parts, His acts being seven ages. At first, the infant, Mewling and puking in the nurse's arms. Then the whining schoolboy, with his satchel And shining morning face, creeping like snail Unwillingly to school. And then the lover, Sighing like furnace, with a woeful ballad Made to his mistress' eyebrow. Then a soldier, Full of strange oaths and bearded like the pard, Jealous in honor, sudden and quick in quarrel, Seeking the bubble reputation Even in the cannon's mouth. And then the justice, In fair round belly with good capon lined, With eyes severe and beard of formal cut, Full of wise saws and modern instances; And so he plays his part. The sixth age shifts Into the lean and slippered pantaloon, With spectacles on nose and pouch on side; His youthful hose, well saved, a world too wide For his shrunk shank, and his big manly voice, Turning again toward childish treble, pipes And whistles in his sound. Last scene of all, That ends this strange eventful history, Is second childishness and mere oblivion, Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything All the World's a Stage - William Shakespeare

Permissions and other Specs
Part 1 — Learn vi and Post your Topic
Before making Outlines and web directories, find a vim tutorial you like and get comfortable
using it.
Then, use vi to edit files in your home directory named File1, File2, and File3, each with at least
three well-formatted paragraphs from a text, novel, article or your own poetry, prose, or blog.
Make each line of text a max of 75 characters wide.
Set the permissions for each of these files to 600, readable by only yourself
and root.
Make a directory named Outlines in your home directory and
edit the topic for your brief on the 1st line of a file named Brief1 in the Outlines directory.
Nothing else is required in the file for Part 1 but line 2 should be left empty if there is.
The file should be ‘plain text’, with no HTML.
Set the permissions on the Outlines directory to 700 and the file Brief1 to 600.
Check the progress page to make sure Outlines and Brief1 are in the right place with the right permissions.
The progress page is updated one second past every minute. Enter ‘date’ at the command line
to check the time.
Part 2 — Posting Your Outline and References
Part 2 of the project is to find references for your brief,
organize them, make an outline for the brief, and use vi to key the outline and references into the file Brief1.
Brief1 should be a plain-text file, should not have any html, will only be read
by you and the instructor. It should be organized by indenting to show the ‘levels of the outline’.
When you’ve completed the research, edit the file Brief1 and add
a nicely indented outline for your tech market brief, starting in line 3, leaving the 2nd line empty.
Single-space between each entry in the outline, leaving no ‘blank line’ between the lines of your outline.
Use spaces to make indentations to structure the outline.
After the single-spaced outline, double-space to leave an empty line and list your references.
If you have done this properly, your feedback below will show your topic,
the first entry in your outline, and the first reference in your list.
Part 3 — Making the 3-page website:
Please find and comply with all the specs posted on the class’ page and mentioned in class for the HOL/Tech Brief project.
Make a valid skeleton of your website first, then pitch your brief in standards-compliant html and css.
Please complete these little tasks at the linux command line without desktop editors!
Steps, without FileZilla or WinSCP, at the command line:
- Make a directory named ‘web’, all lower case, with no apostrophes, in your home directory
if you haven’t already done it.
Set it’s permissions to rwx—–x so you have full access to it and httpd can include it in a path. - Use vi to create and edit index.html in your web directory. Verify that it shows up
as index.html in your progress report below. - Use vi to edit a file named Brief1.html in your web directory.
Your Brief1.html will hold the web version of your technical market brief. - Set the permissions of any web pages, css, graphics,
or other files in the web directory to 604 rw—-r–.
If there are subdirectories, set them to rwx—r-x.
Grading:
Get any questions answered in class, not in email.
Snapshots of this page, the contents of your home directory, and your history at the command line will be
taken after the deadline and used to score the timeliness and quality of each component at the time it was due.
