This progress report is updated every minute, was last updated 2014-12-18 13:53:01: Get the due dates from your class’ web page. A good looking progress report will have no red marks for components on their due date. This is an exercise for working at the command line on a Linux machine and using the vi editor. Please do not edit these files on a Windows desktop and copy them to the server. A red number next to a file in a web directory is an indication that the file was copied from a Windows environment and not keyed using a server-side text editor. For Part 1, make a directory named Outlines in your home directory and edit the topic for your brief on the 1st line of a file named Brief1. Set the permissions on the Outlines directory to 700 and the file Brief1 to 600. Check the progress page to make sure Outlines and Brief1 are in the right place with the right permissions. For Part 2, edit the Brief1 file and add a nicely indented outline starting in line 3, leaving the 2nd line empty and single-spacing between each entry in the outline. After the outline, double-space again and list your references. When you’re ready to make your web pages for Part 3, create a directory named ‘web’ (all lower case) in your home directory and set it’s permissions to 701. Edit a file in the web directory named index.html to be the cover page for your tech brief, with links to a file name Brief1.html that contains the web version of your brief. Use <h tags to reflect the brief’s outline in your web page. Add another page describing ‘SEO’, ‘semantic markup’ and ‘accessibility’ (Section 508)for websites. Use consistent styling and navigation on all pages and link each page to the others. Set the permissions of any web pages and graphics in the web directory to 604. Get any questions answered in class. A snapshot of this page taken at the deadline will be used to score the timeliness of each component at the time it is due.
