A brief history on modern GPU's
Modern graphics processing units as we know them today were created in the 1990's. Graphics processing units have been around since the 1970's, however, they were not dedicated graphics cards until the 1990's. What having a dedicated graphics card means is that the graphics processing unit of the pc is not built directly into the motherboard. This gives users the option to use what ever gpu they desire, as long as it is compatable with their motherboard.
