Comcast and the Internet:

1963:

Comcast is founded by Ralph Roberts with the purchase of American Cable Systems. Dan Aaron and Julian Brodsky join as Ralphs earliest colleagues who would help build the Company.

1999:

Comcast Interactive Capital Group is formed by Julian Brodsky to make technology and Internet related investments; it makes its first investment in VeriSign.

2002:

Comcast and AT and T Broadband complete their $47.5 billion merger, combining systems to serve almost 22 million video customers in 38 states and District of Columbia, with 6.3 million digital video customers, 3.3 million high-speed data customers and 1.3 million cable phone subscribers.

Comcast launches Comcast High-Speed Internet.

2005:

Comcast announces the creation of Comcast Interactive Media or CIM, a new division that will develop and grow the Companys Internet businesses.

The popular Triple Play package, which includes cable, Internet and phone service for one convenient low price, is introduced to Comcast customers.

2006:

Comcast launches its PowerBoost Internet speed feature.

2009:

Comcast becomes the nation’s largest Internet service provider.

Comcast begins its national rollout of high-speed wireless Internet servic Comcast High Speed 2go.

Comcast introduces 50 Mbps Internet service.

2010:

Comcast decides to change name of service from Comcast High Speed 2go, to Xfinity.

2011:

Comcast begins offering Extreme 105 residential Xfinity Internet service to more than 40 million homes across the United States.

Comcast introduces a 100 Mbps Internet speed tier for business customers.

Comcast announces the launch of its landmark Internet Essentials program, which provides low cost Internet service, affordable computers and digital literacy training to families with children eligible for a free or reduced-cost lunch under the National School Lunch Program.

Comcast awarded the title of fastest residential and business Internet service provider in the nation by PC Magazine.

Comcast becomes the first large Internet service provider in North America to start deploying IPv6

2012:

Comcast launches 305 Mbps high speed Internet service.

2013:

Comcast Business Services launches Comcast Business Hospitality, a new product suite consisting of Ethernet, Internet, video and voice services packaged in one integrated offering customized for the hospitality industry.

Comcast launches the new Xfinity TV Go app, a major update to the Xfinity TV Player app, which enables customers to watch up to 35 television channels over the internet on their Apple and Adroid-powered mobile devices.

2015:

Comcast announces a beta test of Stream, a new streaming cable service that allows Xfinity Internet customers to watch live TV from various networks including all the major broadcast nets and HBO on laptops, tablets and phones in their home.
