What are Programming Languages?

Programming languages defined by TechTerms is a programming language that is a set of commands, instructions, and other syntax use to create a software program. Languages that programmers use to write code are called "high-level languages." This code can be compiled into a "low-level language," which is recognized directly by the computer hardware. The history of programming languages is very interesting. According to wikapidia, the first high-level programming language was Plankalkul, created by Konrad Zuse between 1942 and 1945. The first high- level language to have an associated compiler, was created by Corrado Bohm in 1951, for his PhD thesis. The first commercially available language was FORTRAN, developed in 1956 (first manual appeared in 1956, but first developed in 1954) by a term led John Backus at IBM.
