Social Media are websites and applications that enables users to create and share content or to participate in social networking. Social media allows you to have the ability to share photos, opinions, events, etc in real-time has transformed the way we do life and it is also transferring the way we do business. Social media can be accessed via web-based technologies on desktop, computers, and laptops, or download services that offer social media functionality to their mobile devices. Social media has gone beyond simply social sharing to buiding a reputation and bringing in career opportunities and monetary income.
A Brief History On Social Media
In the decade of information systems social media has played a vital role in transforming business and communications. The two most important discoveries that helped the developement of social media was the telephone which was invented in 1890 and the radio which was invented in 1891. Telephone lines and radio signals enabled people to communicated across great distances instantaneously. Technology began to change very rapidly in the 20th Century. Following the creation of the first super computers in the 1940's it allowed scientist and engineers to delvelop ways to create networks between those computers and this later lead to the birth of the internet. Earlier forms of email was developed in the 1960s . By the 1970s networking and technology had improved. In 1979 UseNet allowed users to communicate through a virtual news- letter. In the 1980s home computers weremore common and thus soical media was becoming more sophisticated as well. Six Degrees was the first recognizable social media site which was created in 1997. After the invention of blogging, social media began to gain popularity. Sites like MySpace and Linkedin gained prominance in the early 2000s. Youtube came out in 2005 which created a new way for people to share and connect with each other. By 2006 Twitter and Face book became available to users globally. Social media can be linked to allow cross-posting this creates an envirmonemt where users can reach maximum communication without sacrificing face-to-face intimacy. Social media will exists with human for a very long time.
