Tablet computers, or tablet for short, are mobile computers with touchscreen displays that run on an operating systems specially scaled and designed for a mobile computer-user interface.
The creation of tablets derives as an example of Pen Computing Technology, which is the idea of a mobile computer without the need for the traditional keyboard or mouse. Although the concept of this technology originates back to the 1950s, the first tablet computer released to the public is either considered to be Microsoft's Tablet Computer in the year 2000 or Apple's iPad in 2010-Depending on what generation you were born...
Disregarding the difference in the names, tablet and iPad devices both fall under the genre of tablet computers.
The main distinction between the two devices; however, are the operating systems on which they run:
"Tablets" generally run off Google's open-source, Android Operating System. Whereas, iPads run off Apple's iOS (iPad/iPhone/iPod Operating System).
